In a major development, the warrant issued in 2018 for the questioning of Jamaican entertainer Mavado has been officially vacated. This follows a recent meeting between the artist and the police on Wednesday.

The Official Closure of the Case

David Brooks, better known by his stage name Mavado, is no longer under investigation, as confirmed by the head of the St. Andrew North Division, Superintendent Randy Sweeney. According to Sweeney, based on the current information and circumstances, the police have decided to close the matter.

"Based on the information that we have at hand and the circumstances, that matter has been closed. And of course, the police met with him and his attorney," said Superintendent Sweeney during an interview with Radio Jamaica News.

Timeline of Events Leading to the Warrant

The warrant was originally issued on June 9, 2018, following a complaint by Anthony Goulbourne, who accused Mavado of being involved in a shooting incident. The complaint came after Goulbourne was arrested and charged by the police for allegedly shooting at Mavado in the same year.

In March 2023, one of Mavado’s attorneys, Oswest Senior-Smith, confirmed that they had received formal notification of the warrant. However, with the recent developments and the police meeting with Mavado and his legal team, it appears the matter has now been resolved.

What Does This Mean for Mavado?

This news comes as a relief for Mavado and his supporters, as it puts to rest any lingering concerns over the entertainer’s legal troubles. The decision to vacate the warrant and officially close the case means that the artist is no longer under police scrutiny in relation to the 2018 incident.

It’s a significant step forward for the dancehall icon, allowing him to move on from this chapter of his career and focus on his music and future endeavors.
